- Citadel Room Sharing (86Aug26)
- ------------------------------
-
- Theory (?)
- ----------
- Room sharing (this version) rules are as follows: Each system
- sends only messages that originated on that system to systems that
- have been designated by the system operator. Messages that did NOT
- originate on any given system will NOT be sent to any other systems;
- this prevents message cycling.
-
- The ideal is that a system will not call other systems unless it
- has 1 or more new messages available for sending to the other
- systems for any given room. Unfortunately, due to performance
- considerations, occassionally systems will call with nothing to send;
- this will happen only when all new messages that are entered into a
- network room are deleted by an Aide before networking takes place
- that night.
-
- Operation
- ---------
- A room is designated to be a network room via editing. When you
- type [S] to the room-editing prompt, Citadel will ask for a list of
- systems to network with. If you are re-editing this room for
- whatever (including adding other systems for room sharing), there is
- no need to re-add systems that were already on the list of systems
- to network with; Citadel assumes that they should continue to be
- networked with.
-
- To take a system OFF the roomsharing list for a room, use the
- [U] option from room-editing.
-
- A room can be identified as a network room by the character that
- can be found where the '>' normally is. The prompts are:
- ')' for a normal network room;
- ':' for a network room that also has a directory;
-
- A networked directory room does not have any differences insofar
- as the network goes.
